Two Killed in New Year’s Day Accident

Two people were killed and a third was critically injured in an accident early New Year’s Day in Chicago’s West Garfield Park area, according to police.

Authorities responded to the accident on West Lake Street at around 4:45 am. The vehicle was driving westbound when the driver struck a support column on a section of the street under the Chicago Transit Authority’s elevated tracks.

A man and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene, while another woman was ejected from the vehicle and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The accident is still under investigation.
