A man from Hazel Crest was killed early Saturday morning when his truck crashed on I-57 in Kankakee at Grinnell Road.

According to Illinois State Police, Jeffrey L. Foster, 49, was driving northbound at approximately 9 am when he lost control of his semi-trailer and hit the center median.

The truck did not appear to swerve as it drove nearly a quarter of a mile in the median then down a concrete wall, according to Kankakee County Coroner Robert Gessner. It took almost four hours to extricate the driver in the cold weather.

The semi-trailer landed on the truck’s cab. Foster was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident is still under investigation.
