Since all drivers are required to carry auto insurance in the State of Illinois, teenage drivers must especially be aware of insurance terms. Illinois law requires minimum vehicle coverage and knowing the basics should help you build your knowledge in auto insurance. Here are common insurance terms you should know:

  • Bodily Injury (BI) Liability – insures pedestrians, passengers of another car, and, possibly,  your own passengers who are not members of your household.
  • Property Damage (PD) Liability – bears the expense of vehicle damage to another person or property like fences, poles, and buildings.
  • Medical Payments – insures you or your passengers in the event of a vehicle accident in your car, even if you are the at-fault driver.
  • Collision – will pay for your vehicle damages due to collision with another car or a fixed object (post or tree), or when your car overturns due to the impact.
  • Comprehensive – will cover damages caused by other things but the collision e.g. falling tree, vandalism, fire, theft, etc.
  • Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury – This type of insurance is another required auto insurance coverage that is strictly for vehicular accident injuries caused by a hit-and-run driver or an at-fault driver with no liability coverage.

A lot of personal injury lawyers raise their contingency fee throughout the process, charging 1/3 if the case is settled pre-suit, charging 40% if the case is filed after a lawsuit is filed, and charging 50% if the case goes to trial. We will handle your property damage claim FOR FREE.  We will never change our contingency fee throughout the process.  You will not owe us a penny unless you get money.
