Early Monday morning, a garbage truck overturned on I-55, closing all southbound lanes and one northbound lane for hours. The driver apparently lost control of the truck while trying to avoid a slow-moving vehicle, according to Sgt. Jim Powell of Illinois State Police District 5.

Initial reports show the driver was reaching for something in his truck and approached a driver who was going slower than expected in the right-hand lane. While the garbage truck driver tried to evade the vehicle, he lost control. No information is yet available about whether the driver was cited or injured.
