According to Illinois State Police, a two-car accident on I-474 caused one fatality the day after Christmas. Marilyn S. Stanford, 54, of Creve Coeur was pronounced dead in the emergency department of OSF Saint Francis Medical Center by the Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll. According to Ingersoll, Stanford was a passenger in a pickup truck.

The accident happened at 1:20 pm in the westbound lanes between the Adams Street exit ramp and the Shade-Lohmann Bridge. A semi rear-ended the pickup, causing it to leave the road and travel down an embankment.

The driver of the pickup was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the driver of the semi truck was unharmed. The driver of the semi was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
