Douglas Man Killed in Monday Accident, Police Suspect Drug Use
A 22-year-old Douglas man was killed on Monday afternoon when the car he was riding in skidded into oncoming traffic. According to police, the driver had been using drugs.
The accident happened at around 2 pm in the 6600 block of South Shore Drive. The 1999 Pontiac the two men were in was driving northbound when the driver apparently lost control, according to police.
The car skidded into traffic and was T-boned by a Volkswagen, which hit the passenger side of the Pontiac. Nathan Loveless, 22, of South Rhodes Avenue, was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead at 3:42 pm.
The driver, a 23-year-old man, received treatment for minor injuries. Police believe he was under the influence of “some sort of intoxicant,” which was a factor in the accident. The driver is in police custody with charges pending. It is not known if Loveless was also using drugs.
