Chebanse Woman Killed in Thursday Car Accident

A woman from Chebanse was killed on Thursday in a two-car accident. According to Illinois State Police, the accident occurred at about 5:20 pm on May 1st. Jori Jackson, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Michelle Sokol, 20, of Los Angeles, was driving northbound on I-57 and crossed the center median, striking Jackson’s vehicle head on. Sokol had a 19-year-old female as a passenger in her vehicle.

Sokol and her passenger were taken to local hospitals. Sokol was issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, unsafe tires, and improper lane usage.
