A semi-truck with an oversize crate driving eastbound on US 20 when a piece of machinery in the crate hit the Perryville Road overpass, according to Illinois State Police. The crate broke and debris hit the windshield and roof of a westbound semi-truck.

A white box truck traveling westbound near the accident also rear-ended a Ford pickup, pushing it into another semi-truck. The driver of the Ford was transported to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi with the oversize load was cited for being off his permit route.
