A 30-year veteran of the Oak Forest Police Department was killed when his squad car was involved in a two-vehicle accident on Monday in Oak Forest.

James Morrissy, 62, was pronounced dead at 8pm at Advocate Christ Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Morrissy was en-route to assist another officer with a domestic situation at about 2:15 pm. He was turning left from 160th Street to Cicero Avenue when a southbound vehicle struck the driver’s side of his squad car. He was pinned in the car and had to be extricated.

According to Oak Forest Police Chief Greg Anderson, it does not seem that Morrissy’s squad car emergency lights were on at the time of the accident.

The other driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. No citations or charges are expected against the other driver, but the accident is still under investigation.
