One person was killed and two hurt in a three-car accident in Washington County on Friday, December 13 on Illinois Route 127 south of Mississippi Road. According to police, a box truck driven by Daniel Hodapp, 55, was driving north when Hodapp lost control, crossing into the southbound lane.

His vehicle was hit head-on by a pickup truck driven by Matthew Klaybor, 19, of Dubois. A third southbound vehicle could not slow down in time and hit the pickup truck. Klaybor was taken to Washington County Hospital, then St. Louis University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the third vehicle, Bill Baker, 57, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Hodapp was seriously injured and taken to Washington County Hospital. Police issued him citations for driving too fast for road conditions and driving with an expired registration.
