Ladders and Falls
Employers are responsible for ensuring safety in the workplace, and this includes farms and other agricultural spaces. Proper ladder use is essential to mitigate the risks of falls, the results of which increase in severity as the worker moves higher from the ground. In some cases, an on-the-job fall may have resulted directly from an employer’s negligence, and these victims may be eligible for compensation for their injuries and losses.
Here are some safety tips to prevent falls from heights:
- Work from the ground whenever possible, or on another solid construction
- Implement fixed ladders wherever possible
- Use elevating work platforms, scaffolding, or guard railings, if possible
- Use a “work positioning system” such as industrial rope access or travel restraints
- If high heights are involved, consider a safety harness system, industrial safety net, or similar catch platform
