XPO Logistics was founded in May 1989 and was originally known as Express-1 Expedited Solutions. The company changed its name to XPO Logistics in 2011 and in 2012 began acquiring other logistics and transportation companies under their umbrella.

XPO Logistics manages end-to-end supply chain movement of goods locally, nationally, and internationally including contract logistics, freight brokerage, full truckload transportation, global freight forwarding, less-than-truckload transportation, to name a few.

While most truck drivers operate safely, truck accidents still occur. Not only are these accidents damaging, they can be fatal.

If you or a loved one has been injured in an accident due to another driver’s negligence, we at 844 See Mike are here for you every step of the way to ensure that your rights are protected, and you are fully compensated for your injuries and losses.

XPO Logistics Statistics

XPO Logistics has over 8,900 vehicles and over 13,000 drivers. In the past two years, XPO Logistics has been subject to 5,268 inspections by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). These inspections uncovered 627 unsafe driving violations, 83 hours of service violations, 1,195 vehicle maintenance violations, 1 drug/alcohol violation, and 39 driver fitness violations.

When compared to the national out of service rates, XPO Logistics was under the averages in two of the three categories. In vehicle out of service rates, XPO Logistics was 12.2% compared to the national average of 20.7%. For drivers, XPO Logistics came in at 0.8%, well under the national average of 5.5%. However, when it came to Hazmat averages, XPO Logistics was above the national average of 4.5%, coming in at 5.7%.

In the same two-year timeframe, XPO Logistics was involved in 697 truck accidents. Of these accidents, 491 involved property damage only, 186 had at least one injury, and 20 of their accidents involved fatalities.

Causes of Truck Accidents

Truck driving is a difficult occupation and truck drivers are on the road for long stretches of time, making them prone to errors that put other drivers at-risk for accidents, injuries, and wrongful death.

The most common causes of trucking accidents include:

  • Distracted driving-Distracted driving can include texting, checking emails or social media, daydreaming, eating and drinking, using a GPS system, doing paperwork, or playing with the radio. Whatever a truck driver is doing that takes his or her eyes from the roadway is putting other drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists in danger.
  • Fatigue-Truck drivers are paid by the mile and often feel pressured to deliver their cargo as quickly as possible. The FMCSA regulates the amount of time a truck driver can be behind the wheel and how many breaks they must take however truck drivers frequently disregard this.
  • Negligent maintenance-Trucking companies often try to cut corners and even though maintenance schedules are regulated by the FMCSA, they may not always be routinely followed. Faulty equipment, especially brake systems, can cause catastrophic injuries.
  • Driver error-Trucking companies are required to put only trained, safe drivers on the roadways. Drivers who are improperly trained, inexperienced, or under the influence of drugs or alcohol cannot make safe decisions.

An XPO Logistics semi truck driver slammed into my Toyota Camry on June 24, 2023. I have suffered from debilitating PTSD symptoms of anxiety and trouble concentrating. I am working with a psychiatrist and two therapists. My symptoms interfere with my ability to take the Ohio bar exam which impact my future earning capacity. My enjoyment of life has been affected and the value of my 2023 Camry with less than 1,000 miles on it was inherently lowered due to having been in an accident. Video from the crash led to the driver being cited for ACDA 16 days after the crash. I believe the truck driver was negligent and I have suffered emotion trauma as a result. I understand this case is not worth huge money but I feel I deserve to be compensated every bit as much as if my injuries were outwardly visible.
