Traffic lights and signs exist for a reason: to demonstrate and regulate when and where pedestrians and drivers of vehicles have the right-of-way relative to each other. A stoplight violation, which typically but not limited to “running a red light,” is a needless action which can result in an accident and serious injuries, and negligent drivers must be held legally accountable for the victims’ injuries and losses.

Running a red light is a direct violation of a pedestrian’s right-of-way (and that of other drivers) and the most common form of stoplight violation. However, there are other violations which can result in accidents, such as turning right at a red light despite a sign that states “No Turn on Red.” This not only violates a pedestrian’s right-of-way, but also puts a driver at greater risk of being struck by another vehicle, as these signs typically indicate that vehicles will move through the roadway from more than one direction while the light is still red for the stopped driver.

In all cases, drivers are responsible for adhering to all stoplights and signs and respecting pedestrians’ right-of-way, and if you’ve been injured in an accident due to a driver’s negligence, our attorneys will be here for you every step of the way.
