According to the Warren County Sheriff’s Department, an accident involving a school bus on Friday sent several students to the hospital. The accident occurred shortly after 7 am on US Route 67, just north of Monmouth, Illinois.

According to police, 21-year-old Caitlin Volz was driving north on Route 67 when she lost control on the snowy road, crossing the center line and colliding with a school bus driving south. 25 students were on board the bus.

The driver side of Volz’s Pontiac hit the front of the bus. The car spun into a ditch and Volz had to be extricated from the car. She was transported to a nearby hospital, treated and released with minor injuries. She was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Three passengers on the bus suffered from neck and back pain and were taken to the hospital for treatment. All three have been released with minor injuries, according to police.
