Safe Digging
Before beginning any digging project in Illinois, regardless of its size or depth, you must first call 811 for a consultation to avoid striking an underground utility. It’s the law.
Here are some helpful safety questions for farmworkers to keep in mind:
- Do you know which projects require an 811 call? (fencing, contouring, drain tile, etc.)
- Do you have the appropriate information about your project? (type/timing of project, location, etc.)
- Are you aware of all safety hazards posed by buried utilities?
- Do you have a plan for careful excavation?
- Are all workers trained to recognize any unsafe conditions or hazards during the project?
