While rollerblading may not be quite as common as it used to be, it remains a popular outdoor activity and even a fun mode of transportation whether within or outside an urban area. When it comes to traffic, they are owed the same legal duty of care from drivers of vehicles as is given to regular pedestrians.

Under the law, rollerbladers are quite similar to other pedestrians in that the actual roadway is not meant for them and, while they usually have the right-of-way, there are also situations in which right-of-way is yielded to the vehicle. Rollerbladers must abide by the same laws concerning the right-of-way as pedestrians in order to reduce the risk of traffic accidents, and drivers of vehicles are legally obligated to do the same. In accidents involving a vehicle and rollerblader, negligence remains the central factor in legal liability and the party/parties whose negligence resulted in the accident will be held accountable.
