Police Seeking Truck Involved in Hit and Run Accident
A hit and run accident in Lebanon, IL has left at least one individual in the hospital with severe injuries. Calvin Dye, Jr, an Illinois State Police Trooper, reports the accident occurred at about 12:00 Sunday morning as two people on motorcycles were left on the road. The pair, a man and a woman, were riding along Illinois 4 when they collided with a truck pulling a trailer.
According to the male motorcyclist, an uphill grade in the road caused a blind spot. As he reached the bottom of the hill, he failed to see the pickup truck pulling a trailer. While trying to avoid the truck, he swerved, striking the female rider. The collision ejected her from the bike.
Two white males with dark hair between the ages of 25 and 40 were inside the white pickup truck. According to officer Dye, the driver and passenger of the truck stopped their vehicle, removed the motorcycle that was on top of the female driver, then returned to their vehicle and drove away.
According to many residents of the area, there are many blind spots in this particular area and officers do believe this contributed to the accident. The pickup truck driver failed to leave any contact information, however. Police are now searching for the white Ford F-350 with a flatbed trailer in tow.
The male driver is expected to be fine, but the female driver, who was transported to a hospital in St. Louis, is still listed in serious condition. The two men face charges of leaving the scene of the accident and police want to hear their side of the story.
