Police are still investigating Naperville’s second traffic fatality in just 3 days, this time involving a 43-year-old woman who was killed in an accident Friday morning. Kathleen Schlegel of Oswego crashed her maroon 2007 Honda Pilot at approximately 12:40 am at Crystal Avenue and Raymond Drive and became trapped in the vehicle, according to police.
According to Sgt. Lou Cammiso of the Naperville Police Department, the impact of the one-car crash pushed the engine compartment into the SUV, pinning her legs in the wreckage. Fire crews were able to extricate her and she was airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, where she died at approximately 3:00 am.
According to the initial investigation, Schlegel was driving south on Raymond when her Pilot left the roadway and hit a concrete barrier at the entrance to the Tabor Hills subdivision. No other vehicles were involved, and police have yet to find any witnesses. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact Naperville police at (630) 605-5285.
This is the second traffic fatality of the year in the city, and the second this week. The first occurred on Wednesday when 56-year-old Shwuwei Yeh was hit by a car while riding her bicycle to work.
