One person was killed in a two-vehicle accident Friday morning in Hancock County. According to Illinois State Police, a 2003 Mack truck tractor with a Timpte semi-trailer driven by Charles DeJaynes, 77, was driving eastbound on Illinois 9 just past County Road 2650 East at 6:30 am, a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 truck was driving westbound approaching the Mack truck. A deer walked onto the road in front of the Mack truck and DeJaynes braked to avoid the animal and the vehicle started to skid.

The Mack truck crossed the center line and struck the S-10. Both vehicles went off the road. The driver of the S-10 was partially ejected due to not wearing a seat belt. The driver died in the accident. The identity of the driver has not been released. DeJaynes was treated for his injuries and charged with improper lane usage.
