A two-vehicle accident on Monday in Hancock County left a Niota man dead and a woman seriously injured.

Frank Palm, 63, of Niota, was driving westbound on Illinois Route 9/96 near County Road 1120 East in a Chevrolet pickup. A 2013 Dodge driven by Amber Armitage, 33, was driving eastbound at approximately 11:10 am when Palm attempted to turn left in front of her vehicle, according to police. The vehicles hit head-on, killing Palm, who was not wearing a seat belt.

Armitage, who was wearing her seat belt, was taken to the hospital.
