Naturally, motorcyclists may often be more prone to road hazards such as construction/work-zone conditions, severe weather, and debris on the road than those who drive cars.

Work construction zones are particularly dangerous for many reasons:

• Generally, roadways in work-zones are not at all in good condition and may include many potholes which, if deep or large enough, can be hazardous to motorcycles. • Materials used to fix potholes and cracks in asphalt often contribute to slippery roads, especially during rainy/snowy weather; bituminous rubberized asphalt-sealer is a common example. • Large metal sheets are occasionally used for particularly-large holes in roads, and these sheets may be dangerous for motorcyclists during rainy weather. • Work-zone signs which are improperly placed too close to the road may cause motorcyclists to swerve. • Motorcycles are capable of hitting roadside barriers [including wire barriers] in ways that passenger vehicles cannot, and these barriers offer little protection for motorcyclists.
