A man was struck and killed on Friday morning while running across I-270 east of Illinois 157. He was pronounced dead on the scene by the Madison County Coroner’s Office. The man was struck following a crash, which happened at 6:20 am. The victim’s name has not yet been released.

According to Calvin Dye of the Illinois State Police, a sedan struck a tractor-trailer, causing minor damage to the car’s fender. The driver pulled off onto the left shoulder of the interstate while the semi driver pulled off to the right.

Both vehicles had minor damage, but the driver of the car apparently attempted to check on the semi-truck driver and ran across the road, where he was struck and killed by a pick-up truck. According to Dye, the section of the interstate has a small rise and it appears the man could not see oncoming traffic.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured. No citations will be issued in relation to the crash or death.
