A man was killed on Saturday afternoon after his car was hit by a Metra train in Lake Forest, according to police. Milwaukee District-North Line train #2612 was traveling to Chicago when it hit the car on the tracks at approximately 1:30 pm close to Old Mill Road near Illinois Route 43, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller.

The car was pushed almost 100 yards along the tracks. The 35-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. According to police, witnesses said the sedan was driving toward the tracks when the warning bells and lights activated and the crossing was lowered. The sedan drove around the gate, continuing eastbound where it was hit.
