Harold “Tony” Adamson, 47, of Atwood, died from injuries he sustained after a rear-end collision with a drunken driver Thursday night. According to a release from the Illinois State Police, Edgar M. Maza, 29, of Decatur was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol after allegedly rear-ending Adamson’s motorcycle just before midnight on US 36.

Maza was driving his SUV east just past Arthur Road when he hit the eastbound motorcycle. Adamson was hearing a helmet but he was ejected from his motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene by Piatt County Coroner Troy Dunn.

Maza’s SUV left the road after the collision and overturned. Maza was wearing a seat belt and was not ejected. Along with citations for driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, state police say additional charges are now pending against Maza.
