A portion of a state highway in Iroquois County was closed in Tuesday after a two-car accident that left two people in the hospital and one person dead.

The accident took place at 1:10 p east of Watseka at the intersection of Iroquois County Road 2700 East and Illinois 24. Illinois State Police said a 2001 Mercury was driving down Illinois 24 when it crossed into the eastbound lane, striking a U-Haul truck. The driver of the Mercury, a 67-year-old man from Rensselaer, Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the U-Haul were taken to the hospital for treatment. All individuals involved were wearing seat belts.
