Fatal Truck Accident in Macoupin Leaves at Least One Dead

An accident between a truck and a train has left at least one person dead. The accident occurred around noon on Friday on Route 66 in Macoupin.

According to police, Brain Irwin, 30, tried to cross a rural railroad crossing and failed to yield to an oncoming train. The train hit the driver’s side of the truck.

Irwin suffered serious injuries and was transported to Memorial Hospital in Springfield. A passenger, Nicolas Rayphole, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene.
