An 85 year old Kentland, Ind. man ended up in an area hospital to be treated for injuries sustained when his car collided with a train on Tuesday, September 17th, 2013.

Wilford Tesky was travelling westbound on U.S. 24 in his 2000 Ford Windstar van when he failed to reduce his speed and collided with a Kankakee Beaverville & Southern (KB&S) train. After being taken to Iroquois Memorial Hospital to be treated for his injuries, which were not life-threatening, Tesky was cited by police for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

The incident was recorded on camera by a train enthusiast who happened to be taking pictures at the time, according to KB&S office manager Barb Eighner. The photographer, along with other witnesses have stated that the train’s whistle was blowing as it came through the intersection and could be heard clearly. According to Eighner, the collision occurred just after the train had crossed the intersection. “All crossing lights were functioning as the train approached the intersection,” she said. “Thankfully, the train was moving extremely slow. We are very, very thankful there were no serious injuries.”
