According to the Illinois Dog Bite Statute, any person that has knowledge of a dog bite must report the incident to a state health administrator or their representative within 24 hours. Reporting a dog bite is important, as it begins a case file on the animal in question, alerting officials that a possibly dangerous animal is in their area and helping to keep others safe.

An official report also helps if you have suffered an injury due to a dog bite. Dog bites are painful and often require multiple doctor’s appointments, medication, and if these injuries are severe, you may be facing surgeries, rehabilitation, and missed work with lost wages. When medical bills start piling up and you can’t work, it becomes stressful to think about how you will not only pay your bills and survive in your day-to-day life. Also, when it comes time to discuss a settlement with the dog owner’s insurance company or pursue a civil lawsuit, this report will only further your case and make getting the compensation you deserve that much easier. It is in your best interest to report any dog bite injury you have sustained.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a dog bite attack, we at 844 See Mike are here for you every step of the way to ensure that your rights are protected and you are fully compensated for your injuries and losses, and this includes working on your behalf to ensure a favorable settlement.
