An overuse injury is typically a muscle or joint injury that is caused by any repetitive action or movement. These are seen in sports with such movements such as rowing, as well as jobs requiring repetitive movements, which can even be a desk job caused by typing throughout the day. Symptoms of an overuse injury may be swelling, tenderness, redness, limited range of motion of the affected area, and impaired function of the affected area.

Overuse injuries can heal in a variety of ways. Some minor overuse injuries heal on their own after a few weeks when they are treated to rest and the doctor’s other instructions. Some other types of injuries require a longer course of treatment and recovery and can heal within several months with the proper care. Other overuse injuries can cause serious and permanent damage to the body. They may even require surgery to repair and heal properly.

These injuries are treated by stopping the activity that caused this injury, first and foremost. This will prevent any further damage to the affected area. Depending on the type of injury, you may be given a splint to support the weakened area, steroid medication to decrease pain, and plenty of rest, icing, and elevation. Some serious injuries, like a torn meniscus, may require surgery to fix. Your doctor may also provide you with some physical therapy exercises meant to strengthen the area to get it back to its original state. After recovery, you will likely be told to be cautious and try to decrease the frequency of the activity which caused the injury.

If another person caused your injuries, you can file a claim against them for monetary damages. Medical care for an overuse injury is not cheap, and it certainly is not cheap when it involves potential complications that you may have had to deal with. With our help, we can help you recover the costs of your medical bills, lost wages, and other damages that resulted from another person’s actions.
