Custom/Non-Factory Equipment
A possible addition to your Illinois auto insurance policy is a Custom/Non-Factory Equipment coverage. This is recommended for those who have invested in custom equipment for their vehicle and have the budget to spare.
This additional insurance will only cover equipment installed in the vehicle after it’s left the factory. Some non-factory equipment includes amplifiers, cellphones, body kits, spoilers, and stereos. However, be reminded that this will not cover car LCD monitors placed in front of the car used for other than navigation. Video displays used for entertainment, business, or purposes other than navigation are illegal in Illinois.
Custom/Non-Factory Equipment coverage is an addition to a policyholder’s main auto insurance policy. Keep in mind that this coverage may be rejected when the added equipment is illegal, improperly installed, or has caused the accident.
