A concrete pump is a machine used for transferring liquid concrete and typically comes in one of two types: boom concrete pumps or a line-pump/trailer-mounted concrete pump. Boom concrete pumps are attached to a truck or semi-trailer and use a remote-controlled articulating boom arm to place the concrete accurately. A concrete line pump requires multiple sheets of steel or flexible concrete placing hoses to be manually attached to the machine outlet which leads to wherever the concrete needs to be deposited.

There are also skid mounted and rail mounted concrete pumps, but those tend to be used in more specialized industries, such as mining and in tunnels. Regardless of what type of concrete pump is being used, each type can be dangerous if used incorrectly or by untrained workers.

Risks of Concrete Pumps

Concrete pumps are an essential part of the building and construction industry. Because these machines are heavy and are used to transport concrete high into the air, it should come as no surprise that they can pose serious risks for accidents and injuries, many of which are severe.

The most common accidents involving concrete pump vehicular accidents, crushing accidents, and pump collapse or malfunction. These accidents can occur to the construction worker, other employees, and bystanders, putting them at risk for serious injuries including:

  • Spinal injuries

  • Wrongful death

If you or a loved one has suffered injuries due to negligence on the job site or a defective product, an experienced personal injury lawyer can review your claim and determine if there were unsafe working conditions, potential OSHA violations, and other hazards that may have existed at the time of your accident. They will also determine who may be liable for your injuries and damages and what compensation you may be entitled to.
