Neck injuries can lead to serious impairments and even death, as the neck contains nerves from the spinal cord which sends both voluntary and involuntary signals from the brain to the rest of the body. Although the neck contains part of the spinal cord, not all neck injuries are spinal cord injuries and can include herniated disks and tearing of ligaments or muscles.

If you’ve suffered a neck injury in an accident, whether it was a traffic accident, slip-and-fall, or caused by negligence or inadequate security, you may be entitled to compensation via a personal injury claim, including medical expenses, disability aids, lost wages, and emotional distress.

However, you are not automatically guaranteed to be compensated for these losses, as you must prove that you’ve suffered from the accident and that it was caused by another person’s or entity’s negligence or reckless behavior.

Types of evidence include:

– Photographs of the scene of the accident, injuries, and property damage – Documentation of your medical diagnosis, treatment, and interactions with medical personnel – Written or verbal testimonies from witnesses of the accident – The accident’s police report, if one was filed Common neck injuries sustained in accidents include: – Cervical dislocation – Characterized by spinal instability when one or multiple bones in the neck are displaced or out of position. These injuries often require corrective surgery. – Whiplash – Whiplash injuries occur when the neck is overextended with sudden force, commonly in sports and auto accidents, and may result in a strain, sprain, or nerve damage. – Herniated disc – These occur when a soft disc between two vertebrae is moved out of its proper position, causing pain and/or numbness. They are generally treated with physical therapy and/or medication, but some may require corrective surgery. – Bone fracture – Fractured bones in the neck can cause pain and numbness and potentially lead to further complications.
