A 22-year old man was killed on Saturday in a one-car accident in Collinsville. According to police, Alex Coombs was driving his 2003 Toyota Camry on Vandalia Avenue (Illinois 159) in Collinsville when his vehicle left the road, crossing the southbound lands and hitting a utility pole.

The coroner’s report noted that Coombs was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, and the airbags failed to deploy, even though the primary point of impact was the driver’s side of the vehicle. The accident was reported to 911 at 2:30 am. Coombs was pronounced dead just under one hour later.
