An insurance claims adjuster investigates policy claims to determine the insurance company’s coverage. An adjuster will normally interview the policyholder, witnesses, and police; inspect the damages; and, consult hospital records and other reports. The adjuster will then submit the documentation to the insurer along with a recommendation for the claims.
A claims adjuster may work for an insurance company or work freelance. There are four types of adjusters: public adjuster, staff adjuster, catastrophe adjuster, and independent adjuster. Public adjusters work for the benefit of the insured while a staff adjuster works for the insurance company.
