Cities, towns, and communities throughout Illinois enact and enforce their own ordinances (in addition to state law) regarding dog ownership and responsibilities. Here are some of Cicero’s ordinances regarding dog ownership as stated in Cicero, Illinois-Code of Ordinances Chapter 18:

• No more than three animals over the age of three months may be housed or maintained in any residence or the owner will be subject to a fine (Sec. 18-40);
• All animals over the age of three months kept within the city limits must be licensed (Sec. 18-37);
• No animals owned or kept may be allowed to run at-large within the town at any time (Sec. 18-41);
• All animals must be inoculated for rabies and a valid rabies vaccination certificate must be presented to receive a license and be readily presentable or the owner shall be subject to a fine (Sec. 18-38);
• Any dog deemed “dangerous” as defined in (Sec. 18-47), are not permitted to be running at-large and owners will be subject to fines ranging from $100.00-$750.00 (Sec. 18-46);
• It is unlawful for any owner to allow their dog to cross his property line unless properly and securely leashed (Sec. 18-52);
• It is unlawful to keep any animal that creates loud noises that disturb other persons (Sec. 18-7).
