Boy Killed in Car Accident on Way to School

A 7-year-old boy was killed Wednesday morning after he was hit by a car on his way to school in Chicago Heights, according to police. Paramedics treated him shortly after the accident at 7:48 am at Chicago Road and 16th Place. Jackson Hill was transported to St. James Hospital and Health Center in Chicago Heights, but he was pronounced dead at 9:07 am, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

According to a news release from the Chicago Heights Police Department, no arrests have been made and the cause of the crash is still unclear. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday and the Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident.

Chicago Heights School District 170 posted a statement on its website saying, in part, “It is never easy to experience the loss of human life, but it is especially difficult to cope with the loss of a child. The Board of Education and Superintendent ask for you to keep the student and the student’s family in your thoughts and prayers.”

The school district also stated it would provide any and all assistance to students and their families and has implemented a crisis management plan to help staff members and students, who may get help dealing with the tragedy by contacting Assistant Superintendent Jill Raymond at (708) 756-4170.
