5 Injured in Accident on South Side

Three passengers in the vehicle hit were taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition. A passenger of the car witnesses say police were pursing is also hospitalized. Police have not yet released the names of anyone involved in the accident. According to witnesses, the driver of an SUV struck a red Pontiac at about 9:30 am.

According to police, the 3 male occupants were the same they witnessed handing off a gun shortly before in the 1100 block of East 67th. When they tried to stop the vehicle, the driver took off. A spokesperson for the police department says officers were not involved in a high speed chase at the time, although witnesses said it seems otherwise.

Three women in the Pontiac were taken to the hospital, as well as two suspects in the SUV. Four suspects are in police custody.
