Three people were transported to a St. Louis hospital after two cars collided on Tuesday at Illinois Route 4 and Jefferson Road near Mascoutah. According to Illinois State Police, all three victims had life-threatening injuries, but their names have not been released.

The accident occurred at about 9:30 am after the driver of a Chevrolet Impala swerved into the right lane, overcorrected to the left lane and struck a Buick LaSabre head-on.

One passenger in the Impala was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the LeSabre was a 77-year-old woman. The driver and passenger of the Impala were 30-year-old men. All three are in critical condition, and police are investigating the possibility of alcohol being involved.
