Two people were transported to the hospital after a two-car accident Monday at Illinois 29 and Jellystone Road. According to police, Charles Powell, 58, of Williamsville said he was driving north on Illinois 29 at 5:07 pm when he tried to turn left onto Jellystone Road.

A 2011 Ford Mustang driven by Kathleen Schmidgall, 50, of Springfield was driving southbound and struck Powell’s vehicle on the passenger side. Powell said he was blinded by the sunlight when he was turning and failed to see Schmidgall’s vehicle approaching. He was issued a citation for making an improper turn.

Schmidgall’s vehicle went off the road and hit a utility pole. The accident injured both drivers, who were treated and released from St. John’s Hospital.
