A single-car accident on Route 25 in Batavia on Wedneday morning left one dead and another injured, according to police. Batavia Police Detective Sgt. Shawn Mazza said police responded to the 600 block of South River St at 12:58 am. Salvador Esparza, 32, of Aurora, was driving northbound in a 1990 Mercedes Benz and apparently lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a tree.

According to Mazza, it appears both the driver and passenger, Amos Martinez, 33, were thrown from the vehicle after the crash. Both were transported to Presence Mercy Medical Center, but Esparza later died from his injuries. Martinez was in serious condition, but his injuries did not appear life-threatening.

The accident is still under investigation.
