Insurance Terms You Should Know
- Bodily Injury (BI) Liability – insures pedestrians, passengers of another car, and, possibly, your own passengers who are not members of your household.
- Property Damage (PD) Liability – bears the expense of vehicle damage to another person or property like fences, poles, and buildings.
- Medical Payments – insures you or your passengers in the event of a vehicle accident in your car, even if you are the at-fault driver.
- Collision – will pay for your vehicle damages due to collision with another car or a fixed object (post or tree), or when your car overturns due to the impact.
- Comprehensive – will cover damages caused by other things but the collision e.g. falling tree, vandalism, fire, theft, etc.
- Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury – This type of insurance is another required auto insurance coverage that is strictly for vehicular accident injuries caused by a hit-and-run driver or an at-fault driver with no liability coverage.
