A back injury is a general term encompassing many different types of damage or trauma to the connective tissues of the back, including bones, muscles, tissues, tendons, ligaments, and more. They can be caused by physical exertion, a fall, a sudden movement causing stress to the back, sports, automobile accidents, and more.

Back pain can accompany a very wide array of conditions, from nausea to a spinal cord injury. However, there are some more common back injuries that are often linked to back pain, which include the following:

  • Back sprains and strains – These sprains are caused by the overstretching or tearing of a ligament in the back. Ligaments are bands of tissue that connect bones to your joints. A back strain would be caused by an overstretching or tearing of a tendon in the back. Tendons are bands of tissue that connect bones to muscles.
  • Herniated discs – The intervertebral discs in your spinal cord act as cushions between each vertebral bone. They are made of tough, hard cartilage on the outside and soft, gel-like cartilage on the inside. Trauma to the back due to an accident can cause this encased soft cartilage to protrude out of the disc and cause intense pain.
  • Fractured vertebrae – An accident where you suffer severe trauma to the back can cause one or more of the vertebral bones to break. It may be a compression fracture where a bone collapses on itself or a burst fracture where the bones are severely compressed and often shatters.

If another person caused your injuries, you can file a claim against them for monetary damages. Medical care for a back injury is not cheap, and it certainly is not cheap when it involves potential complications that you may have had to deal with. With our help, we can help you recover the costs of your medical bills, lost wages, and other damages that resulted from another person’s actions.
