According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), traumatic brain injuries (TBI) contributed to the deaths of 56,800 people, including 2,529 children. The CDC also found in a frightening statistic that motor vehicle crashes were the second leading cause of all TBI-related hospitalizations at 20%. Victims should know that they can pursue a legal claim if they fall victim to this deadly injury to be compensated for their suffering and medical costs. If you or a loved one has sustained a TBI from a car accident, contact 844 See Mike for a free consultation so we can help you recover from this experience and get fairly compensated.

TBIs occur after blunt force trauma or when one’s head strikes something with sudden, heavy impact. They can cause brain hemorrhaging (bleeding), brain contusions (bruising), severe concussions, skull fractures, brain swelling, and more. TBIs are considered mild if the loss of consciousness lasts under 30 minutes – however, they are still extremely serious. These mild injuries can cause nausea, mood swings, memory loss, fatigue, and coordination problems. Moderate to severe injuries may cause dilated pupils, depression, impaired motor function, irritability, clear fluid exiting the ears or nose, and difficulty with speech.

The CDC found that TBIs from motor vehicle crashes were the leading cause of death for people 15-24, 25-34, and adults 75 and over. This is a very serious injury due to how deadly they can be. TBIs are very time-sensitive as they can worsen within days, or hours. Victims should seek medical attention immediately following a serious accident, even if they believe that they are fine. The discernible effects that one notices in themselves may manifest when it is too late.
